Background:
Luke 1:28, 31 (KJV)
I portray Mary as a young woman with dignity and strength. It was my husband’s idea to paint her pregnant. Pregnant women seem to glow. Mary's glow is ethereal. She is carrying the Light of the world.
I painted Mary calm, reflective, and humble as she contemplates the miraculous birth of the Christ child.
Women have been an enigma since the creation of Eve. Why was she created? Is she a man’s equal? Is she the weaker sex?
“Women of the Bible” celebrates beauty, audacity, and faith. Sometimes, the Bible records a single incident. Some names are unknown. Yet, their stories are inspiring.
I created this collection to elevate respect for God’s most beautiful, complex creation, a Woman!

Inspiration:
When I was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, I was feeling lost and alone. But then, my childhood friend Jackie gave me a book that changed everything. "Prayer Through the Eyes of Women of the Bible" by Ann Spangler and Jean E. Syswerda became my source of comfort and hope. It was Jackie's way of showing me that she cared and that I wasn't alone.
Years later, I rediscovered the book unpacking boxes in my new home. As I reread the book again, I imagined the women described in its pages, and I was inspired to paint their portraits. The paintings became a beautiful and meaningful addition to my home and sparked many conversations with my guests.
I am grateful to Jackie for her gift of words, which helped me find peace during a difficult time. I am also thankful for the gift of art, which has allowed me to share my story with others. I hope my paintings will inspire and comfort others, just as Jackie's gift did for me.
