Have you ever talked to a friend or family member and recalled an incident that deeply affected you only to find that they recall the same incident completely different? Recollections are different because memory is based on emotion.
Dr. Angelou said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” The facts of an incident can be disputed. But, how that incident made you feel cannot.
My paintings are visual recollections. When I can no longer bear the agony of an untold story inside my soul, I set it free on canvas. The canvas recalls the incident exactly the way I feel it. As I paint, emotional restraints are set free. And each intimate brush stroke heals my weary soul.
